My other interest is bicycles and tricycles. I have built a total of two Recumbent bikes and one recumbent trike so far. OR actually two Bikes and converted one to a trike!
An explanation is in order here. a Recumbent bike is a bicycle designed so that you can sit down as you ride them. this is an advantage because they are far more comfortable than a standard upright bicycle. Most recumbent riders call upright bikes "Wedgies" because of the uncomfortable seating arrangement. But this is not the only point where 'bents are "better" than a standard "safety" bicycle.
The problem known as "Carpal tunnel syndrome" is something that can cause difficulties in the arms and wrists of most cyclists. I personally have difficulties with my wrists and can only stand to sit on a standard bike seat for a short time without discomfort. Some people say that recumbent bikes are "faster" than a standard bicycle. But while this may be true (or untrue)speed is not the point! comfort is, at least for me.
